For Sadie, who lives with GNB1 Syndrome, epilepsy, global development delay, and autism, riding a regular bike wasn't possible.
Before Sadie’s mum, Jessica discovered Freedom Wheels, Sadie would watch her sister ride her bike and it left her feeling so frustrated. Unable to safely use a standard bike, she often missed out on the simple joy that many other children take for granted.
“Sadie always wanted to ride her sister’s bike, but it was unsafe. She would get upset, and it was hard to explain why,” Jessica shared.
That all changed when Sadie received her custom Freedom Wheels bike. Built specifically to meet her needs, Sadie’s bike gave her the freedom she longed for. Now, she can join her sister and other kids at the park, explore her neighbourhood, and feel the independence she deserves.
Sadie’s story is a beautiful example of how your support can transform a child’s life, but there are still many children waiting for their chance to experience this joy.
He picked up a guitar for the first time when he was 14. Since then, he’s been playing in bands, performing at bars, and sharing his love of music with his family. But in March 2022, a stroke left him unable to strum the guitar that had always been his joy.
As Michel focused on recovery, his wife Cathy began searching for a way to bring music back into his life. They eventually connected with us, and with the help of volunteer Ross we developed a custom guitar strumming device that allowed Michel to control the strumming with a foot pedal while still forming chords with his hands.
“When Michel strummed the guitar for the first time after his stroke, his face lit up,” Cathy shared.
“It was a moment none of us will forget,” she said.
Now, Michel is regaining a part of himself through music. He’s playing again with his daughter Jess, something he cherished before the stroke, and he’s reclaiming the freedom to express himself through the music he loves.
